About McMeans Junior High NJHS

McMeans Junior High National Junior Honor Society boasts many members doing great things across our community!  We focus not only on honoring outstanding achievement in our junior high students, but also on acts of service in our school and district, as well as, ​all across the Katy and the Greater Houston areas.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.

 

How do I become a member of NJHS?

NJHS membership is offered to qualified 8th grade students after the 4th six weeks of their eighth grade year, or to qualified 7th grade students after 4th six weeks report cards are printed.  Students will be invited via the McMeans NJHS Canvas course.

Membership is based on grade point average (GPA) and conduct records.  Names are gathered from a Katy ISD ​generated report of students' GPA and conduct history.  

Students with discipline infractions throughout the year are subject to removal from the list.

Details regarding induction practice, induction, meetings for members, and officer elections, will be conveyed through the NJHS Canvas course.

 

What is required of members? 

Members are required to complete a minimum of 15 service hours each year to help the community and explore personal interests.  Students will be recognized with a certificate for the amount of time given in service at the end of the year (as long as the minimum time is met).
